SABC board Deputy Chairperson, Mamodupi Mohlala, says some board members are strongly against Section 189 notices, which permits an employer to dismiss employees for operational requirements.

The public broadcaster is looking at retrenching 400 staff members, though there are about 170 vacancies that employees could apply for.

The SABC board met with Communications minister Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams last night, over the retrenchments process.

Mohlala says she believes there are other options that can be explored to save jobs.
