Communications minister Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams says she is determined to support efforts aimed at finding an amicable solution to the retrenchments at the SABC.

The public broadcaster is planning to retrench 400 workers, but the board has suspended the process for seven days to allow for further consultation.

Ndabeni-Abrahams and minister of Employment and Labour Thulas Nxesi met with the SABC board yesterday and instructed them to return to the drawing board to ensure that all available options are thoroughly explored.

Meanwhile The Communications Workers Union Aubrey Tshabalala says the meeting they had with the SABC leadership was not fruitful as they failed to produce the proposed new structure.

Tshablala says this consultation is another delay tactics of the public broadcaster.
