The South African Health Products Regulatory Authority has confirmed a second fatal case of Juillain-Barré syndrome following vaccination with the Janssen Covid-19 Vaccine.
The National Immunisation Safety Expert Committee investigated the second fatality.
Last month, the country recorded its first fatality.
SAHPRA’s spokesperson, Yuven Gounden, says the syndrome is a rare but potentially severe neurological adverse event, associated with the administration of various vaccines and other medicines.
Gounden assured the public, despite the deaths, vaccines are still safe.
