The South African National Taxi Council in KwaZulu Natal says it has decided that no taxi’s will be working during the national lockdown.
According to the government’s measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus, taxis were instructed to carry no more than 7 passengers at a time during the 21 day lockdown.
However this morning a lot of taxi ranks in the country were reduced into chaos as there were more commuters who are essential workers that needed to go to work.
Santaco secretary in Durban, Mathula Mkhize, says it’s not profitable for them to take only seven passengers per load, especially since the government is not going to support them.
