Police Minister, Bheki Cele, says security forces are already taking charge in the volatile areas to eliminate the risks on voting day.
Cele has outlined a massive deployment of state security machinery and officers, particularly to KwaZulu Natal and North West.
He says these two provinces have been identified as hotspots ahead of the May 8 general elections.
The minister says there are 3,000 reservists and five other groupings that are waiting to be deployed where it could be necessary on election day.
He says the police will be on the ground while the army will be on standby to assist whenever a need arises.
Meanwhile the IEC’s, Janet Love, says their final preparations for the elections will be done at the weekend, with the first special votes being cast on Monday.
Love says they are grateful for the enhanced safety measures adding that there will be eight election officials at each voting station.
