A 39-year-old former police officer has been sentenced to ten years direct imprisonment for possession of an unlicensed firearm and rhino horns.
Former cop Sizwe Buthelezi has been sentenced by the Durban Regional Court.
During his court case, police detailed how the KwaMsane police tactical response team member, Buthelezi, was seen leaving Hluhluwe UMfolozi park in October 2018.
A police task team and Ezemvelo Wildlife officials tried to stop him, but he sped off. Buthelezi eventually lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a house.
The task team found him in possession of a hunting rifle and two freshly cut rhino horns.
