Hollywoodbets Sharks head coach John Plumtree has named his squad for the Vodacom United Rugby Championship opener against Connacht in Galway, Ireland on Saturday evening. The Sharks, who are fresh from capturing their first Currie Cup title since 2018, have opted for continuity for their URC opener, keeping the majority of the side that beat the Fedility ADT Lions 16-14 in the Currie Cup final last week.
The Sharks’ backline remains unchanged from the Lions match, whilst the forwards pack sees four changes in total. Hooker Dylan Richardson starts ahead of Fez Mbatha who drops to the bench, while Ruan Dreyer comes in for Hanro Jacobs. New signing Jason Jenkins will earn his Sharks debut at lock alongside Gerbrandt Grobler with both players replacing the Currie Cup final starters Corne Rahl and Emile van Heerden. Vincent Tshituka continues with his captaincy duties in the absence of the Springbok players.
John Plumtree’s men will be looking for an improved performance in this seasons Vodacom United Rugby Championship campaign after failing to finish in the top eight and reach the play offs last season. After missing out on action in week one, South African teams will begin their respective campaign this weekend. The Sharks vs Connacht match will kick off at 20:35
