KwaZulu-Natal Social Development MEC, Nonhlanhla Khoza, says she is concerned about the high incidents of hijacking of state vehicles which cripple service delivery.

Last Thursday, a social worker who was assigned to Inanda was hijacked at gun point on his arrival on local service office premises.

In another incident, two social workers from Harry Gwala District Office were hijacked on the R56 near Richmond, in the Midlands, while en route to Pietermaritzburg last Friday.

Addressing the community of Ward 7 and 8 of Ubuhlebezwe Local Municipality at Jolivet Hall, MEC Khoza said it was very disturbing that government employees who were providing such a much-needed service to communities had to keep on looking over their shoulders.

Khoza has made a plea to the citizens of the province to protect government employees from falling victim to a spate of hijackings.
