The Taliban have seized power in Afghanistan two weeks before the United State was set to complete its troop withdrawal after a two-decade war.

The insurgents stormed across the country, capturing all major cities in a matter of days, as Afghan security forces trained and equipped by the U.S. and its allies melted away.

On Monday, US president Joe Biden says the events that are unfolding in this country are sadly the proof that no amount of American military force would ever deliver a stable, united, secure Afghanistan.

Biden says American troops cannot and should not be fighting and dying in a war that Afghan forces are by and large not willing to fight and die in themselves.
