Teenage Suicide Rate On the Rise in SA

Written by on 16 February, 2021

Suicide is currently the third leading cause of death in 15- to 19-year-olds, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The Operations Director of the South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG), Cassey Chambers, says South African teens are at risk to take their own lives.

Chambers says these teenagers find themselves under pressure as they try to navigate a new world of online learning or delayed learning, social isolation, loss, grief and trauma, with increased anxiety and depression.

Chambers adds that they want to create more awareness on Teen Suicide Prevention.
