Power utility, Eskom, says it has been vindicated in its fight to eliminate irregular and unlawful procurement practices.

Eskom has won a landmark legal challenge to scrap an R8 billion tender agreement that it had with fuel oil supplier Econ Oil.

The South Gauteng High Court has reviewed and set aside the awarding of the R14-billion CORP 4786 contract, which was for the supply of fuel oil to three companies; Sasol Oil, FFS Refineries, and Econ Oil and Energy.

Eskom Spokesperson, Sikonathi Mantshantsha, says last year the utility’s executive team became aware of evidence of irregularities and illegal collusion between some of its executives and Econ Oil.

Mantshantsha says the ruling shows the utility’s commitment to investigate and set aside contracts where evidence of corruption s discovered.
