ANC KZN Secretary Bheki Mtolo has stated that the provincial executive committee cannot be held responsible for the party’s failure to retain a majority in the May elections.
He explained that he and the chairperson, Siboniso Duma, can only account for the province’s 17 percent loss, while ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa and Secretary General Fikile Mbalula must take responsibility for the 40 percent loss nationally.
Mtolo made these remarks during an organisational renewal political class at the General Gizenga Mpanza region in KwaDukuza, north of Durban, last night.
In this year’s national and provincial elections, the ANC failed to retain both the country and KZN, falling below 50 percent of the votes. This resulted in the formation of a government of national and provincial unity.
Tomorrow, the ANC’s highest decision-making body, the National Working Committee, will meet with the KZN PEC in Gauteng, where part of the agenda is expected to include the possible disbandment of the PEC.
