Written by on 3 April, 2023

The Weekend has made history as the first artist to reach 100 million monthly listeners on Spotify, cementing his place as one of the world’s biggest music stars. The Canadian singer and songwriter has been making waves in the music industry for decades, and this latest achievement only adds to his already impressive resume.  This is statistically the world’s most popular musician, Guinness World Records said Monday.

The Weeknd’s latest streaming accomplishment comes just a few days after he dropped his new remix of “Die for You” with Ariana Grande. The duet version of the Starboy-era hit is the frequent collaborators’ fourth team-up following “Love Me Harder” (from 2014’s My Everything), “Off the Table” (from 2020’s Positions) and the pair’s 2021 remix of “Save Your Tears” (from After Hours).

With a career spanning over a decade, The Weekend has released several critically acclaimed albums, including “Starboy,” “Beauty Behind the Madness,” and “After Hours.” He has also won numerous awards, including multiple Grammy Awards, and has collaborated with some of the biggest names in the industry, such as Daft Punk, Kendrick Lamar, and Ariana Grande.

No one else even comes close to the singer’s streaming success, according to Guinness World Records, which said the 33-year-old singer has set two world records for music streaming.

The achievement of reaching 100 million monthly listeners on Spotify is a testament to The Weekend’s popularity and appeal. The streaming platform has become an essential tool for artists to reach their fans, and The Weekend’s success on the platform reflects on his loyal fan base and his ability to produce hit after hit.

The Weeknd’s 2020 track “Blinding Lights” is the most streamed track on Spotify of all time, with more than 3.47 billion listens as of Monday, according to the music streaming platform. His song “Starboy” is also one of the most listened to songs of all time on Spotify.

CBN News reported that, The Weeknd is no stranger to Guinness World Records awards. He was awarded two certificates back in 2016: One for Spotify’s most streamed album in 2015 and the other for the most consecutive weeks in the Top 10 of Billboard’s Hot 100 by a solo male artist.
