The chief executive of South Africa’s state power utility Andre de Ruyter says there is a renewed sense of urgency among government stakeholders to address the energy crisis in the country.

De Ruyter has been addressing the media on the current system challenges, which have resulted in Stage 4 load shedding this week.

Three units at Eskom Kendal power station, as well as one each at Tutuka and Majuba power stations, were forced offline in recent days to perform emergency repairs.

De Ruyter says they expect 12 units to be operational this week.
