Tobacco activists are ready for oral arguments in cigarette ban case

The Fair Trade Tobacco Association says the current ban on the sale of cigarettes and other tobacco products is feeding an illicit market that will be increasingly difficult to eradicate when the lockdown and the Covid-19 crisis are over.
The North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria will today hear oral arguments in the matter between Fita and the government in which the association is challenging the ban.
Fita chairperson, Sinenhlanhla Mnguni, says the ban must be declared irrational and unlawful.
