Former Bafana Bafana captain Neil Tovey believes Clive Barkers biggest strength was his ability to create an environment for players to thrive and gel together. Tovey accompanied Minister of Sports Arts and Culture Zizi Kodwa and SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan to Clive Barkers home in Durban on Monday morning, to pay their respects to the Barker family.
Tovey worked with “The Dog”, as he was affectionately known, for many years as a player at Durban City where they won back-to-back league titles in the early 80s and also as Captain of the AFCON winning Bafana Bafana team of 1996. He believes Barker was exceptional at creating an environment that was filled with love, and allowed players to express themselves and play at the top of their game.
