Former Transnet Group CEO, Siyabonga Gama, says he’s not clear whether Gupta-associate Salim Essa was involved with Trillian when he met with him in Dubai, in 2016.
Gama is giving evidence before the Zondo commission of inquiry investigating state capture, sitting in Johannesburg.
Witness Christopher Todd has told the commission that Gama was handpicked to advance state capture.
There were also claims that Gama approved multi million rand contracts without reading the terms and conditions, and ignored board instructions.
Gama says their discussions centered on information sharing concerning Essa’s vision to create a majority black-owned management consultancy, but adds they did not discuss Trillian.

Gama has further denied allegations that he gave witness 2 money he allegedly collected from Essa.
According to the commission, Witness 2’s affidavit says he found R200 notes in a spare wheel compartment of Gama’s car, estimated to be around R100 000.
Gama says witness 2’s allegations are baseless and fictional.
