Police minister Bheki Cele has called on political parties to mitigate political tensions in KwaZulu-Natal.
He says the rise in the murder of politicians in the province is a cause for concern especially with by-elections having taken place in parts of the province.
KZN is expected to hold by-elections in four wards soon. Three of these positions became vacant as a result of Councillor candidates being killed.
Cele says task team investigations have revealed that the most affected political parties are the ANC, IFP, and the National Freedom Party.
He says that over 280 arrests on politically-related cases have been made from 2018, with a 63% conviction rate, but adds more can still be achieved.
Cele adds that police are very close to solving the murders of late KZN councillors Bhekumndeni Ndima and Minenhle Mkhize from, who were shot last month.
