Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) department in the province says it’s working hard to ensure those affected by floods are assisted.

Yesterday, Cogta MEC Bongi Sithole Moloi, led mop-up operations in Newcastle north of KwaZulu-Natal where two people and an infant lost their lives.

In the Mkhanyakude District, two people are still missing after they were swept away trying to cross a flooded river in Ngwavuma.

Cogta KZN spokesperson, Nonala Ndlovu, says they are working closely with all municipalities to ensure assessments are done and the right steps are taken to help affected communities.
