Eskom CEO Andre De Ruyter says ongoing issues of load shedding cannot be accepted as the new normal for South Africans.

With a number of breakdowns at power stations and delayed return to service of some units, the power utility is implementing load shedding this week between 5pm and 10pm.

Previously De Ruyter had cited that maintenance backlogs at Eskom date back to over two decades.

Addressing media in Gauteng on Wednesday afternoon, De Ruyter has acknowledged that load shedding remains an inconvenience that is crippling the SA’s economy.
