State Capture Commission Chairperson Raymond Zondo, has recommended law enforcement agencies to investigate and possibly charge former Transnet executives and former minister Malusi Gigaba with corruption and racketeering.
The executives include the SOE’s two former group CEOs, Brian Molefe and Siyabonga Gama, former finance heads at Transnet Anoj Singh and Garry Pita, as well as former Transnet engineering chief Thamsanqa Jiyane.
The report covering Transnet and Denel was released Oon Tuesday evening.
The commission has found that the 5 were central in enabling the Gupta family looting enterprise at Transnet during former president Jacob Zuma’s years in leadership, covered politically by Gigaba who also allegedly benefited financially from the Guptas
Part two of the report stipulates that these executives allegedly accepted cash payments and gratification from the Guptas in the period between 2010 and 2018.
The report further states that, corruption at Transnet was an elaborate scheme that involved securing influence and control over decision-making.
This included the appointment of key Gupta associates such as Molefe and Singh into positions of power to sway Transnet business bias towards entities linked to the controversial family.
They also comprised of various kickbacks involving locomotive deals, the inclusion of Gupta-linked companies as supplier development partners on Transnet contracts, various money laundering arrangements involving Regiments Capital and the payment of bribes to top officials and employees.
