The eThekwini Municipality says communities must refrain from attacking City personnel when they are attending to reported water and electricity outages.
In a recent incident, Municipal employees were attacked in KwaMashu North of Durban when the area was experiencing a power outage.
The City also condemns the torching of a Durban Metro bus during the protest action in the area.
There has been reported incidents of employees being robbed at gunpoint while on duty, with Municipal vehicles being stolen.
Municipal spokesperson Msawakhe Mayisela says the security concerns are so serious that the city officials sometimes don’t respond to night calls in certain areas for fear of being attacked.
