Parliament’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) has given President Cyril Ramaphosa 10 days to explain on what he knows about the abuse of state funds for party-political campaigns.
This follows the president’s alleged comments in a leaked audio recording.
In the recording, Ramaphosa can be allegedly heard admitting to being aware of public funds being used for political campaigns in the build-up to the Nasrec elective conference in 2017.
ANC Member of Parliament, Mervyn Dirks had petitioned the committee to summon Ramaphosa to appear before it.
SCOPA Chairperson Mkhuleko Hlengwa says he will write a letter to President because no citizen should feel they above the law, adding that Ramaphosa will be given seven to 10 days to respond to the letter.
