The South African government has reiterated it is not taking sides in the Russian invasion of Ukraine and has urged its citizens to refrain from doing so.
During a parliamentary debate on the impact of the conflict, International Relations and Cooperation deputy minister, Candith Mashego-Dlamini, says government stands by its decision, insisting on mediation, dialogue and negotiations to stop the war.
She says it will not condemn its anti-apartheid ally Russia.

Meanwhile, the EFF says it supports this stance by the government.
EFF Chief Whip Floyd Shivambu says Russia is acting within its own rights in invading its neighbour, adding that mediation and dialogue should continue to be encouraged.
