The ANC’s National Working Committee (NWC) has reiterated that the party will not be bullied into taking sides on the Russia and Ukraine conflict.

This follows a call by DA leader John Steenhuisen, saying that the ANC led government should choose a side instead of just being neutral in the matter, effectively pledged its support for Russian president Vladimir Putin.

ANC Spokesperson Pule Mabe says while they continue to encourage mediation and dialogue, they will not be stuck in the middle of this long standing war.

He adds that based on the country’s relations with Russia and as a member of BRICS, South Africa has been approached to play a mediation role in the conflict.
