The African National Congress’s newly sworn-in Member of Parliament, Paul Mashatile, has vowed to serve the country with dignity and integrity.

He was sworn in as an MP for the second time and is tipped to replace David Mabuza as the country’s deputy president.

Mashatile took his oath alongside former KwaZulu-Natal premier, Sihle Zikalala, and presidential advisor Maropene Ramokgopa who became MPs for the first time.

The former deputy minister and Joburg mayor Parks Tau round out the group of new ANC MPs to join the back benches.

Mashatile says he’s not rushing to be the country’s second in command as that decision lies with president Cyril Ramaphosa.
