The department of Basic Education has urged schools to take learners back to class, even if they are not in full school uniform.

This follows the deadly floods in KZN and Eastern Cape that swept many houses away and left families in destitute.

The department is urging school principals to accept pupils back in class whether they are in uniform or not.

Education Spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi says number of schools so far have been accommodating, considering that most children have lost family members other have become orphans after the floods.
