KwaZulu-Natal Cogta MEC Sipho Hlomuka says damaged caused by floods is estimated to be around R3.3 billion for both private and public infrastructures.
Hlomuka has been briefing media in Umgeni Municipality on upcoming meetings with municipal executive committees and weather-related incidents in the Province.
Last week, Ladysmith received significant rainfall which led to the Kliprivier bursting its banks and flooding parts of the CBD.
Latest reports indicate that 25 lives have been lost as a result of weather-related incidents with three people still missing. A total of 28 000 people from over 5000 households have been affected.
Hlomuka says they have activated provincial disaster management team and have allocated a budget to assist those who are homeless due to floods.
