KwaZulu-Natal Education MEC Kwazi Mshengu has called on parents to be more hands on when it comes to the education of their children.
Mshengu convened a meeting at the department’s office in Pietermaritzburg that included principals, district administrators and the heads of department.
He says educating pupils should not only be a priority for teachers, but parents also need to play a positive role by showing interest and being part of their child’s educational journey.
The MEC states that the level of teacher absenteeism is also too high, causing a gap and disturbance in a well planned daily routine of a child, vowing to act on this, by holding school principals accountable.
