Written by on 23 November, 2020

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has welcomed the African Union’s appointment of three high-level envoys to help resolve the conflict in Ethiopia.

AU chair, president Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed former presidents of Mozambique and Liberia, Joaquim Chissano and Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, and South Africa’s Kgalema Motlanthe as envoys.

More than 30-thousand people have fled Tigray for Sudan to escape fighting between national and regional forces.

Guterres says the UN supports efforts towards peace and stability in Ethiopia.
