KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala says the provincial government will continue to support the Zulu royal household.

Zikalala has been speaking at the 8th Salga Conference in EThekwini.

The AmaZulu royal family is currently battling the late King Goodwill Zwelithini’s will in the Pietermaritzburg high court. The late King Zwelithini’s first wife, Queen Sibongile, and her two daughters Princess Ntandoyenkosi and Princess Ntombizosuthu Zulu-Duma are challenging the validity of his will.

The will named the late Queen Mantfombi Dlamini-Zulu as regent following the king’s death last year. She, in turn, appointed King Misuzulu kaZwelithini as her successor in her will.

The court case has divided the AmaZulu royal house and forced the provincial government to put the king’s coronation on hold.

Zikalala says the royal house must be given the respect it deserves.
