ANC Head in the Presidency, Sibongile Besani, has come out in defence of the party’s National Working Committee’s (NWC) decision to suspend Secretary General, Ace Magashule.
His comment follows Magashule’s defiance statement that he remains in office since he has appealed the party’s decision to suspend him.
A letter sent by deputy secretary-general Jessie Duarte states that Magashule will be suspended pending the outcomes of his criminal matter in the Bloemfontein High Court.
His case relates to the 255-million-rand asbestos roofing project during his term as Free State Premier.
Magashule has now hit back, saying he has suspended ANC president, Cyril Ramaphosa, as he is facing allegations of vote-buying during his CR17 campaign to become party president.
Besani says divisions may be evident now in the ANC however, unity is still possible if resolutions taken in Nasrec are implemented accordingly.
Meanwhile, Political Analyst Ralph Mathekga says the suspension of Magashule is a bold move by the ruling party.
Mathekga says leaders must make sure that this decision is supported across the party.
