Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) Commissioner Teboho Maruping, who has been on suspension for over a year, has resumed his duties today following the conclusion of disciplinary processes.

Maruping was suspended in 2020 after a report by the Auditor-General found irregularities with the payment of the Covid-19 Temporary Employer-Employee Relief Scheme (TERS).

Following an investigation by the Special Investigation Unit, he was found not to have benefited from TERS either through corrupt or fraudulent means.

Several government officials were found to have looted millions from the money supposed to provide relief to unemployed people during the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.

Some have been cleared by the SIU.

Department of Employment and Labour’s Director-Deneral, Thobile Lamati, says Maruping’s return will bring much-needed leadership stability to the UIF.
