Uyinene’s killer handed three life sentences

Former post office worker, Luyanda Botha, has been handed 3 life sentences for raping and murdering UCT student, Uyinene Mrwetyana, earlier this year.

Botha pleaded guilty to all charges in the High Court in Cape Town, he will not be eligible for parole for 25 years.

Handing down the judgement, Judge Gayaat Salie Hlophe, says they understand that the punishment won’t bring back Uyinene, but she hopes they will manage to find closure.
