The Department of Basic Education is expected to start inoculating close to 500 000 staff at schools countrywide, with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

The department in KwaZulu-Natal has confirmed that teachers and support staff over the age of 40 will start to receive their inoculations this week.

This comes despite of the United States Food and Drug Administration, which is yet to clear the use of the vaccine.

Meanwhile, Educators’ Union of South Africa (EUSA) President, Sicelo Bhengu, says they are not fully happy with the commencement of vaccination using the Johnson & Johnson vaccine as there are still doubts about it.
