The World Health Organisation (WHO) has formed a scientific advisory group to look into the origin of the COVID-19 pandemic, and how to better prepare for future pandemics.
The research comes as 942 new cases have been recorded in this country with the majority of these from the Western Cape, followed by Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal.
There has also been an increase of 70 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours.
The WHO’s Scientific Advisory Group for the Origins on Novel Pathogens includes scientists from the US, China, and about two dozen other countries.
The first human cases of Covid-19 were reported in the central Chinese city of Wuhan in December 2019.
WHO’s Mike Ryan says the establishment of this group is really important.
