The Department of Cooperative Governance (Cogta) in KwaZulu-Natal has placed disaster teams on alert following a weather warning of widespread thundershowers over most parts of the province, from today heading into the weekend.
A warning of heavy rainfal for Harry Gwala, iLembe, Ethekweni, Mgungundlovu, Ugu, King Cetshwayo and some parts of uThukela and uMzinyathi Districts has been issued by the South African Weather Service.
Cogta says these rains could lead to localised flooding in rural areas and low lying bridges.
Department Spokesperson, Senzelwa Mzila, has urged residents to take extreme caution as the inclement weather conditions could pose a serious threat to human life.
