Former South African Airways (SAA) treasurer and whistle-blower, Cynthia Stimpel, says Dudu Myeni’s sentence is unjustified.
The embattled former SAA board chairperson pleaded guilty to defeating the administration of justice for exposing the identity of the protected witness ‘Mr X’ at the state capture commission of inquiry in 2020.
She was given a fine of R120 000 or two years in prison.
Stimpel says Myeni knew what she was doing and had destroyed many lives and careers at SAA.
She says the sentence is too lenient.
However the National Prosecuting Authority’s Phindi Mjonondwane says they welcome the sentence, adding that they believe it will be a lesson for others.
