Business tycoon and opposition leader  is expected to turn things around after being declared winner of Zambia’s hotly contested presidential election, defeating incumbent Edgar Lungu.

Official results showed Hichilema had secured more than 2,8 million votes against Lungu’s 1,8 million votes, with 155 of 156 constituencies.

Over the weekend, Zambian opposition candidates have urged president Lungu to concede defeat.

This was after the incumbent president cast doubt on the recent elections by claiming it was not free and fair.

According to reports, independent local observers have dismissed Lungu’s claims that party candidates were expelled from polling stations.
