ZCC announces that its churches will remain closed

South Africa’s biggest church group, the Zion Christian Church, has announced that its churches will remain closed during level three of the lockdown.
President Cyril Ramaphosa announced earlier this week that churces are allowed to reopen on Monday, subject to strict regulations, but ZCC says in a statement it is not deemed safe yet to resume services.
The group has an estimated three point eight-seven million members.
ZCC says the directive is applicable to its churches inside as well as outside of South Africa.
Meanwhile the organisation Right2Know has highlighted concerns over the secrecy around the government’s refusal to give insight into meetings where the National Coronavirus Command Council makes decisions that end up ruling the lives of citizens.
Right2Know’s, Thami Nkosi, says people should be concerned when there is a lack of oversight and transparency.
He adds that there should be citizen participation in making the decisions that impact everyone.
