Premier Sihle Zikalala says the provincial government will be focusing its efforts on mobilising world leaders and all sectors of society to urgently address inequalities that hinder progress in the HIV response.
Zikalala had been addressing the commemoration of World AIDS Day at Gugu Dlamini Park in the Durban CBD.
He says it is clear that inequalities continue to drive the AIDS pandemic.
The premier says despite the great work that has gone into research, HIV treatment, and better knowledge of the disease, AIDS remains a serious public health issue and a pandemic that still has to be overcome.
