Veteran forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic has announced his immediate retirement from soccer at the end of an emotional night at San Siro.

Ibrahimovic appeared emotional as he was serenaded by the Milan fans and then given a guard of honour by his teammates as he left the pitch. He began at Malmo in his native Sweden before joining Dutch outfit Ajax in 2001 aged 19.

Ibrahimovic won the Eredivisie title in his first season in Amsterdam and his mesmerising slaloming goal against NAC Breda in August 2004 is a strike that frequently does the rounds on social media to this day.

He also enjoyed trophy-laden spells at Paris Saint-Germain, Inter Milan, Barcelona, Juventus and Ajax, having started his career with hometown club Malmö. He made 122 appearances for Sweden, scoring 62 goals, finishing as the top all-time goalscorer for the Blue and Yellow.
