Former President Jacob Zuma’s legal team has released a statement reiterating that Zuma will not be appearing before the State Capture Commission of inquiry.

Zuma was summoned to appear at the commission today, the 15th, to the 19th of February 2021.

Last month the ConCourt ordered Zuma to appear before the commission, however, Zuma in a letter announced that he will not be participating.

“The Commission is aware that the review application which President Zuma has instituted to set aside the refusal buy Deputy Chief Justice Zondo to recuse himself from hearing matters concerning him and his family is yet to be determined by the court,” the statement explained.

They add that appearing before DCJ Zondo in the circumstances would undermine and invalidate the review application in his decision not to recuse himself.

Meanwhile Commission’s Chairperson, Raymond Zondo, says it’s difficult to understand why Zuma would be refusing to take the witness stand to subject himself like everybody does.

Furthermore, the Commission’s Advocate Paul Pretorius making submissions before the Chairperson, says it’s not an attack on Zuma, but the commission only wants him to assist with the information and it’s calling him to account.
