Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo and Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane are among eight people being shortlisted to become South Africa’s next Chief Justice.
Current Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng’s term will officially come to an end in a week’s time.
President Cyril Ramaphosa officially released the names of the eight-strong shortlist candidates yesterday, and the list includes Western Cape judge president John Hlophe, Gauteng judge president Dunstan Mlambo, Justice Mbuyisele Madlanga from the Constitutional Court and Supreme Court of Appeal president Mandisa Maya, former Cape Town city manager Dr Wallace Mgoqi, and senior advocate Alan Nelson.
25 people had been recommended for the position, but only the eight have made the cut by meeting the requirements.
