The Department of Correctional Services has confirmed that former president Jacob Zuma has been admitted to a hospital outside the Escourt Correctional Centre in the KZN midlands for medical observation.
He is currently serving a 15-month prison sentence for contempt of court.
The department says a routine observation prompted that Zuma is taken for in-hospitalisation.
It adds that as a former president the healthcare needs of Zuma require the involvement of the South African Military Health Services, and this has been the case since his admission to Escourt.
