ward-winning Gqom superstar Babes Wodumo has officially announced the upcoming release of her highly anticipated new album, Mabheshingo. This project marks a powerful return for the Queen of Gqom, not only celebrating her signature sound but also honouring the legacy of her late husband and fellow music icon, Mandla “Mampintsha” Maphumulo, with a collection of unreleased tracks.
The album title Mabheshingo is a bold reflection of Babes Wodumo’s fearless spirit and artistry. Known for her electrifying performances and ability to capture the pulse of South Africa’s youth culture, Babes promises that this body of work will deliver both the high-energy anthems that made her a household name and deeply emotional songs that speak to love, loss, and resilience.

“I added a few songs Mampintsha left me with. I can’t wait for everyone to hear it,” Babes shared. She also confidently reminded fans, “I’m still the Queen of Gqom.”
“Yep!Im still the Queen of Qgqom my album is called MABHESHINGO Link will be posted Thursday,” she concluded.
Babes Wodumo is no stranger to breaking barriers. Her explosive debut single Wololo (2015) introduced gqom to mainstream audiences and positioned her as a powerhouse of the genre.
With Mabheshingo, she’s ready to remind Mzansi and the world why she’s still holding the crown of that very genre.
Mabheshingo is expected to feature collaborations with both established and emerging artists, offering a dynamic blend of hard-hitting Gqom beats, experimental sounds, and heartfelt storytelling. Industry insiders have already described the project as a defining moment in Babes’ career—one that balances her trademark energy with a new depth and maturity.
Fans will get their first taste of the album with the lead single, set to be released in the coming weeks, ahead of the full project’s rollout. The album will be available on all major streaming platforms, with physical copies and limited-edition merchandise also in the works.
With Mabheshingo, Babes Wodumo not only reclaims her space as the reigning queen of Gqom but also ensures that the voice of Mampintsha continues to echo in the hearts of fans across South Africa and the world.
