South African media darling and medical professional Dr. Musa Mthombeni has once again proven that excellence knows no bounds. The beloved TV presenter, content creator, and qualified doctor has officially graduated with a Master of Medicine (MMed) in Diagnostic Radiology from the prestigious University of the Witwatersrand (Wits), marking a significant achievement in his already multifaceted career.
A former child star turned seasoned broadcaster and board-certified specialist, Dr. Musa’s latest qualification positions him among the few South Africans to seamlessly balance the demanding worlds of media and medicine.
On graduation day, Dr. Musa was all smiles as he proudly donned his academic regalia, joined by his wife, former Miss South Africa and philanthropist Liesl Laurie-Mthombeni, and his mother—two of his greatest champions throughout his academic and personal journey.
Taking to social media, he shared a carousel of heartfelt images, including joyful moments with his family. In true Musa fashion, his captions carried his signature wit and warmth:
“Vukani!!!! What do Masters of Medicine graduates eat for breakfast again? Speak fast, the queue marshall looks mean and is about to call my number. NQF level what what Daddies are up!”
The post quickly went viral, sparking waves of congratulations from fellow healthcare professionals, celebrities, fans, and institutions across the country.

This graduation comes just months after Dr. Musa revealed that he had officially passed his MMed program. In April 2025, he shared a screenshot of the confirmation email from Wits, which read:
“Dear Dr Musawenkosi Mthombeni, Congratulations on completing the requirements for the Master of Medicine in Diagnostic Radiology. We wish you all the best in your future career.”
He reflected on the timing with gratitude, saying:
“A little birthday present to me. Ke di batla one by one!”
But this was no overnight success. In 2023, Dr. Musa was certified as a Specialist Radiologist by the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa after passing the rigorous FC Rad Diag (SA) board exams—a feat that further cemented his reputation as one of South Africa’s most dedicated young medical professionals.
Throughout his journey, Dr. Musa has remained a beloved public figure known for his infectious humour, relatable personality, and commitment to excellence—whether in front of the camera or inside a CT scan room.
While many know him from his television days on YoTV and his time as a radio host and public speaker, fewer have witnessed the late-night study sessions, clinical rotations, and intense exam prep behind the scenes. This latest qualification is a reflection of years of hard work, sacrifice, and an unshakable passion for making a difference.
Dr. Musa Mthombeni’s story continues to inspire a generation of young South Africans who are juggling multiple dreams. He is a living testament to the idea that you can embrace more than one calling and still achieve excellence in each.
With this new milestone, the radiologist and media personality is not just celebrating another degree—he is solidifying his place as a dynamic, multi-talented force in South Africa’s medical and entertainment spaces.
