He is proving why he is one of the most consistent hitmakers in the country. Just a month after releasing his acclaimed collaborative album Gqom In Black with Woza Bakzin, Durban’s own Goldmax returns with his highly anticipated, viral new single “eZimbali” – OUTNOW, on all major digital streaming platforms via Goldmax/Empire.
If you’ve been on TikTok, Instagram Live or in any Durban taxi in the last two weeks, you’ve heard it. A 15-second snippet of Goldmax chanting – “Ngithole i-Call ka-Baby, Uthi usene Flat, Use nombhede eZimbali”, sent the internet into a frenzy, with thousands of reposts, dance challenges and captions like “Zimbali is not a place, it’s a lifestyle.” Today, he gives the people what they want.
“eZimbali” is more than just a Gqom banger – it’s a story every South African knows too well. Named after the ultra-luxurious Zimbali Coastal Resort & Estate in Ballito, one of KZN’s most exclusive vacation destinations, the song captures the humour and drama of Durban July weekend.
“Ezimbali is the name of the song, as the inspiration being the KZN luxury vacation destination ‘Zimbali Estates’,” Goldmax explains. “This song is inspired by Durban July shenanigans, where someone’s partner ends up sleeping in Zimbali yet doesn’t live there, hence the chorus ‘Ngithole i-Call ka-Baby, Uthi usene Flat, Use nombhede eZimbali’.”
It’s luxurious, cheeky, and instantly quotable – the perfect Goldmax formula.
The release comes at a time when Goldmax’s work rate is unmatched. After dropping Gqom In Black (August 2026), Voices of Gqom with DJ Tira, and a string of singles for artists like Solan Lo (“Amahebezi”) and Ornica Bellz (“Inkomishi”), many are asking if he is the hardest working Gqom producer right now.
His answer is simple:
“I spend most of my time in-studio producing, I have many songs and if I am live on social media and the masses show interest to a snippet I am compelled to give the people what they want.”
It’s that direct connection to the fans that has kept him at the top for almost a decade.
Goldmax, real name Zipho Mthembu, hailing from KwaMashu, North of Durban, is not just a producer – he is Gqom history.
He first exploded as one half of the iconic duo Distruction Boyz alongside Que DJ, the powerhouse behind the genre-defining hits Babes Wodumo’s “Wololo” (2016) and “Omunye” – the first Gqom songs to go mainstream and earn Gold certification, shifting Gqom from Durban’s underground to national radio. The duo went on to win Best Dance Album at the SAMAs, a BET Award nomination for Best International Act, and paved the way for the commercial Gqom wave.
