World Rugby has announced that a formal investigation is underway into Springbok hooker Bongi Mbonambi’s alleged racial remark directed at England’s Tom Curry during Saturday’s World Cup semi-final in Paris.

After England led for the entire of the match, the Springboks won the semifinal 16-15.

The governing body has stated that it is taking the issue very seriously.

If the claim is proven, Mbonambi could be barred from competing in the final.
