The South African music industry is in shock following news that multi-award-winning house music producer DJ Chymamusique has been hospitalised and is currently fighting for his life in ICU after a tragic car accident. The crash, which occurred earlier this week, claimed the life of fellow artist DJ Poizen, leaving fans and industry peers across the country devastated.

According to close sources, DJ Chymamusique was en route to a planning session for his upcoming Ecue Men’s Camp & Retreat when the accident took place. The highly anticipated event, which was scheduled to run from 19–21 September 2025 in Clarens, Free State, has been postponed indefinitely in light of the tragedy.

The Ecue Men’s Camp & Retreat was a personal passion project for Chymamusique, designed to create a safe and transformative space for men aged 23 to 65. The initiative aimed to tackle urgent issues facing men in today’s society, including mental health, relationships, fatherhood, and emotional wellbeing.

“This isn’t just a camp, it’s a movement,” Chymamusique said in a recent interview. “Men also need a place to heal. We carry so much and it’s time we start talking about it.”

The retreat programme was set to include:

  • Mental health workshops led by professionals in the field.
  • Open conversations around anger management, emotional expression, and trauma.
  • Dialogues on relationships and fatherhood, encouraging vulnerable and honest exchanges.
  • Engagements on pressing social issues such as crime, substance abuse, gender-based violence, and gender dynamics.
  • Community activities, including motivational talks, live music, local food experiences, business networking, hiking, and a flea market.

Last month, Chymamusique released Musique Collaborated Volume 1 which was a follow-up to Chymamusique’s chart-topping 2021 album Musique, which takes listeners on a sonic voyage through deep house, Afro-soul, jazz, and electronic fusion. The project is described as a celebration of cross-border musical storytelling and growth, blending intentionality with fluid grooves meant for both reflection and dance floor magic.

Since news of the accident broke, tributes have poured in across social media, with fans, colleagues, and fellow artists sharing messages of love, prayers, and support for Chymamusique’s recovery, while also mourning the heartbreaking loss of DJ Poizen.

At this time, Chymamusique’s family has requested privacy as they focus on his treatment and recovery. Further updates on his condition and the rescheduled Ecue Men’s Camp & Retreat will be communicated in due course.
